It has been long! I know... but right now, my life seems to be stuck in this rut and for some reason, it is almost like I am expecting something drastic to happen. But the event eludes me like the plague!
Ah well... things will happen when they do! If people reading this blog don't already know, I am crazy (read rabid fangirl crazy) about Japan and her culture. And it is one of the first things in my 'To Do' list of my life that I go to Kyoto and be the audience of a Noh drama. And yes. I didn't say Kabuki... I said Noh.
I don't know... sometimes I feel like there is a very strong unexplainable bond between me and that city... almost like I have something waiting for me there! It's an eerie feeling at times but I sometimes feel as though it is my destiny to go there and wander around the numerous shrines and temples there!
And as I was in this state of mind, I managed to write down what I felt in the form of verse. I'll say it isn't that great or anything. But hey! I'm not Emily Dickinson! :P
The swirl of the autumn leaves to the ground
The sound of the thunderous applause before...
My feet that lace the wooden stage
A Noh dancer presenting tales of yore.
They see no expression save that on my mask
They hear no lament beneath
The tale is all they'll know for now
But none of the sorrows burried deep.
My eyes may shed unseen tears
My heart may cry out unheard
The unbearable weight of the soul
And the solitude dreaded and feared
They crush my hopes and blow them asunder
They sneer as they back me against the wall
But the applause once more before unseeing eyes
For me, a Noh dancer, this fall.
(I know it has a twinge of melancholy and sadness. But for some reason, I always feel a little sad yet content when I think of Noh... the same way I feel when I think of Shinto priestesses. Ever wondered what runs through an actors mind as he goes through his story telling? The stoic expression makes the performer immune to such guesses... but somehow, I view his heart as an even more vulnerable thing because of this aspect!
Ah well... I know I'm making little or no sense whatsoever! I hope you liked the poem. =D)
P.S. I know the poem is not that great that someone would be tempted to plagiarize it. But just in case you feel like doing it, I'd advice you to draw inspiration from this and write something of your own. Believe me, it gives you such a wonderful feeling!

An Ode to Appu
This post is the result of a suggestion from one of my friends who, unable to bear my silly and totally annoying babbling anymore, suggested I write a poem about a good friend... And well... here it goes! :)
"Who'll be your best friend?"
The boy taunted the child.
And her eyes fell onto the floor
And so did her toothy smile.
A sniffle and a silent sigh -
She lifted her head back high!
"I've my Appu!" was her firm reply.
As though to attest her words,
As though to proclaim them true,
He whisked out the open door!
And all her troubles - away, they flew.
She hugged the fawn head
And got a wet lick back instead
And a joyous bark from his mouth, issued.
None did dare openly taunt her now.
Not that she cared what they thought!
She had a true friend for life
And thus all her pain, she forgot.
They'd frolic by the sea...
Not minding jealousy!
An adamant strong bond was wrought.
But things didn't go so well at all
And soon her friend passed through the veil
And alone she smiled as she cried
Knowing he was in a greener dale
"Farewell friend," she sighed at last
"You're the best of memories from my past!"
And so that's how I write this little tale.
I love you, Appu! My friend.... my philosopher... and my love!
As many must've guessed, Appu was my friend... he was not exactly human. But I speak the truth in letting people know he was the only one who stood by me when I was bullied by the neighbourhood kids, when I was alone, when I needed a shoulder to lean on. He was the (only) one who'd seen me cry and he had his own sweet way of letting me know that everything will be alright. I miss him now more than ever. :')
Hope he's finding doggy-heaven comfortable enough!
P.S. I know nobody's going to steal this poem...it not being exactly stunning and all... But well... if you do plan to take it, don't! It's akin to robbing a grave.

Paper Cranes
I'm spring-cleaning my system (and I don't mind the fact that it's not spring where I live!) and I found this piece of poetry I'd typed a long time ago. Now normally, I don't type poems. I find that it shorns the poem of some of it's lyrical beauty... but somehow... I really like this piece. And if I am in the mood for it, I might post some of my other poems as well...
This poem was written when I was working in Cognizant. I was 'benching' for a few months (That was the only thing I ever did in that place! So... not much of a 'work' experience there!). And one day, I decided I would do something useful (I was not given a system yet... so... my case was pretty much confined to the conference room where we waited day in and day out, hoping to get into some project). And that was when I started folding paper cranes. I made loads of them. And any person who knows the symbolism behind the japanese paper crane will tell you that if you were to complete a thousand cranes, you would have one of your wishes come to pass. Well... I wasn't sure if that was true... but making the cranes is sure a lot of fun. And somehow... making those cranes inspired me to write this poem.
As for now, here I present...
PAPER CRANES
A thousand cranes in the sky
A single wish buried deep
But Myriad fetters binds the mind
Secrets ancient bidden to keep.
The soft treads of muffled feet
The mute sashay of crimson robes
In the shrine where the divine meet,
For a part of which the soul now gropes.
I live in wooden mansions high and old
In lore ancient and forgotten
The heart sans feeling has grown cold
The material manifest now all rotten.
A miko, a virgin without a heart.
I wave the beads in contemplation.
My dances of solitude now start
And a lock is clasped on all temptation.
To mend a broken heart, I
Chose this fate and lonely life.
But it has chilled my soul and I
Cannot feel any more strife.
Blessed indifference… I craved
And my need was answered well
My heart from further hurt is saved
But in eternal cold, I dwell.
A miko, a virgin without a heart
My voiceless feet on wood now tread
And in my eyes, the wise and smart
Shall discern a dead past that once bled.
I've had very bitter experiences where my works were stolen and published under other names. So... please... draw inspiration from this poem. Don't steal it? And if you still do... then I guess that makes you sub-human and there's no use talking to the likes of conniving thieves.
