To be missed is the best of things!

I know I promised not to blog too much. But I need to get this out of my system if I ever hope to get back to normal. Today, I witnessed a little puppy die. Some careless driver ran his vehicle over his head in the night. Now this animal was one the countless homeless strays that Indian roads are infamous for. The thing that hits me the hardest is that when I was heading for the temple, I saw the little one sleeping in one corner, very much alive. And when I was heading back, I saw him dead... the accident must've happened just a few minutes before. I couldn't control my grief... I broke down.

Now, I understand people around me find it weird that I can remain resilient to grief (visibly atleast!) during the funeral of a relative but can so easily crumble at the sight of some random animal's death. I don't know... I guess I'm a loser if that's what people would like to believe it so. And frankly, I don't care. It's the saddest thing ever not to be missed... Not to be cried for in Death. It's just too sad to be nonchalant when one sees such sad things! And the thought that the puppy will not be sorely missed makes me sadder... I miss him... I hardly know him but I already miss him!

Little angel who flew to the skies today, I love you! And I'm a little consoled knowing you're in a better place... Rest in peace loved one!

P.S. If all of you who read this could send a little prayer for the countless homeless animals out there and do what you can to make their lives better, I'm sure the world would be a much better place! Love shown to a homeless animal is returned manifold! Believe me, I know!

Have a Heart! :(

Photo of a dog behind a chain-link fence at th...

I must say I am a really big admirer of anything Japanese. But recently, I came across an article that has saddened me a lot.

The Japanese are really nice, agreeable people... they are polite, punctual and very hard working. But they have certain quirks that are a little irritating in certain situations. I am talking about the numerous dogs that are abandoned every day in the streets of Japan because their owners had lost interest in them. Now, I am sure this sort of thing is common in all countries of the world... we've heartless bastards everywhere! But what really makes it difficult for these poor creatures is the stigma that is associated with adopting a dog from the shelter.

The Japanese consider anything second-hand as damaged and not worthy of ownership. So, the abandoned dogs are considered 'hand me downs' and so, not many people come forward to take them in and give them a loving home. Since there's always another designer pet shop around the corner that stocks up on the latest trends in canine ownership, why would anyone want hand me downs? This means that the shelters there are hard pressed to find homes for these animals. And since very few people would go to the shelter, these animals have a very bleak future that would last seven days at the most... then, they are euthanized.

But there is still hope for these adorable animals.

"Heart Tokushima" is a non-profit organization that is trying to change the mindset of the people regarding shelter pets. It is a known fact that these animals are a bit more loving than the other pets one buys since they know the harsh realities of the shelter and the bliss of a loving home.

Let us hope things get better for our furry friends out there! And remember... adopt, don't shop! I could give you a million reasons why! :) But all that for another time.

For the sake of Humanity, STOP IT!

A sombre hello to everyone out there. I know it's been way too long since I've updated. Well... I was a little tied down with University and my semester exams. And they're over now. Now, one might ask. If exams are over, people tend to shout their guts out in joy and run around in circles screaming! Well... I was doing all of that... until... I came across this website:

Animal Saviors

What I found in this website was more than enough to sap my joy and happiness away!

Cats and Dog being skinned alive... just so the fur would come out more easily and cheaper! Makes me wonder.... are they humans? Do they have something that even closely resembles a heart? Before any smartass can make any comment that they're just animals or that just knowing it hardly changes matters, I'd like to say that I have been against animal products since I was ten and still am. And that I know that I can't herald a revolution all by myself. But I am doing all that I can and will continue to do so! It is much better than to sit, in a closed room shrugging off saying you can't do anything about it!

I can't believe what I see and read there. But I have crosschecked and this vile and cruel practice has been happening for quite some time now!

One would think that in the tens of thousands of years that we spent 'evolving', we would've developed a deeper understanding about life and how valuable it is; how we are not the only inhabitants of this planet and that pain is something any creature can feel. But I guess all we're going to be bothered is how good we look when we drape that fur coat around us... Let me tell you... when you know that some creature's been tortured to death so that you can look good, it makes that fur coat look like something that's disgusting; doesn't it? And if it doesn't, please by all means stay in your little bubble. But tomorrow, I am sure such people who don't care will have their children (or the younger generation, for those who'll counter saying they won't have kids - don't expect to live in outerspace now do ya, smartass?!) look at them with such disgust and disappointment.

Shouldn't leaving a better tomorrow be one of our most important duties? Shouldn't the future generation understand love and compassion? And where will they learn it from if not from us? And how can we tell them to love unconditionally when we commit such heinous acts of callousness?

It's about we do something... for the millions of lives we lose to this practice and for Humanity that dies a little everytime this happens.

Remembering Ninja

Today, I came across this one article about a cat - Ninja. What's so special about this feline, you ask?

Well... the story ebhind ehr is not a funny or happy one, my friends! 'Tis a sad tale.

Read it here -->> Click me!

And having read that, I wondered, things aren't that different here either!

When was the last time you saw a dog or cat run away, afraid, as you bent down to light a fire cracker? Yep! I'm talking of the 'Oh-yay-special' Diwali that we celebrate!

It goes on without implication that animals are terrified of the loud and bright fireworks, we inconsiderate humans indulge in. And there are so many reports of animals suffering because of burns or have lost a leg or a tail or turning permanently deaf because some Idiot felt the best place to light up fire crackers was right next to the sleeping creature!

It's about time we thought about this... Diwali without crackers isn't that bad an idea! I've been following the 'no-crackers' way for more than seven years now and I'll have you know, I feel much better!

It is far more gratifying when you know that your Diwali was an enjoyable one - not just for you, but for every single creature on the planet!

This blog will henceforth feature a lot more of such tales and rants regarding animal issues! If it makes you readers a little uncomfortable, I'm sorry! The truth was never comforting to begin with! =)
